What are views of mainstream music?
I am an underground music type of gal. Of course, at some point many underground artists go mainstream. So, like I was listening to Drake, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Logic all of them when they were just mixtape artists. Going mainstream is always bad for the quality of music. If you turn on the radio, everything sounds the same so it's hard for real artists to get through and actually get airplay. I mean artists grow, but when mainstream companies have artistic control it's not good for the artist. They take the artistry.
Look at artists like Drake. If you go back to Room for Improvement, that's a completely different artist. Drake is not the same Drake. I mean he's not in a bad place right now, but he's not the same. If I could get another record like "Say What's Real" or "Teach U a Lesson," I'd be fine. Honestly, his albums reflect a lot of his old content. However, the singles start to blend with everything else on the radio.
Then there are always artists who can re-invent themselves time after time regardless of the musical climate. I know everybody is not a fan, but Beyonce's albums are different. Each album is completely different. You may not like her, but you have to respect her artistry.
