365 Questions--March 6
What are 3 causes you are passionated about and why?
When I first read this question it kind of made me giggle a little. It's not because any of these causes are a laughing matter; it's just I have been very passionate about these things for quite some time. I've mentioned before that I will be graduating soon. One of my professors has really has been pushing me to narrow down what I want to do, but I'm so passionate about each of these causes so it's been kind of hard.
1. Children
There was a quote from the FLOTUS that said:
"As I've said many times before, arts education is not a luxury; it's a necessity. It's really the air many of these kids breathe. It's how we get kids excited about getting up and going to school in the morning. It's how we get them to take ownership of their future. And most importantly it's how we get [them] to go to college."
Art forms culture and culture leads to history. This particular cause is very important to me. I'm a product of a fine arts magnet school. Dancing is what kept me out of trouble. Some kids need the arts to give them a break from life. It may not always be art. It could be a sport, it could be something they're passionate about, or it can even be academics. Every child needs somewhere to put their frustrations with their circumstances. How many times have you heard a celebrity say they put all their focus on one thing, be it singing, sports, school or whatever, and it took over their life? They may not want to do that "thing" for the rest of their life, but they can use it to get where they are trying to go. If they keep perfecting that gift, that can be their ticket to college. College may not be for everybody, but I honestly believe the experience is vital to life. Everyone does not graduate, but just going is good. I want to help find that thing to give them there.
2. Veterans and Military Families
I think this population is a little overlooked. Well, the families are overlooked, and very little is done for veterans in spite of their sacrifice. Families have to give up just as much as the soldiers are. I want to have a nonprofit focused on them as well. I want to have an alternative therapeutic methods organization for them. Also, I want to have a support group for the families. I can only speak from experience. Both of my parents are retired military serving over 20+ years a piece, my cousin pent 3 of the 4 years he was in the army in Afghanistan, but they literally receive no kind of help. My cousin has PTSD and wants to go college, by the grace of God he is going, but there is like no real assistance out there for him. It's not fair.
3. Domestic Violence
There is something very, very disturbing about domestic violence. We go to school for 13+ years. There are sooooo many words we learn in that time span that a person should be able to use and have a civil conversation, but no people result to putting their hands on people. There are so many factors that go into domestic violence. Sometimes it starts of as mental abuse. Sometimes people stay because of financial reasons, but I want to create an organization to advocate for them and provide services to get them out. Yes, I have personal connections to domestic violence. I am just grateful that I was able to get out. Not everybody does, and that's incredibly unfortunate.
