Love of God

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

We all know that Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and everybody is getting dressed up and going on and dates and stuff to express their love to bae. But be reminded that there is no greater love than the love of God because God is love. Last week we talked about loving yourself enough to hand your burdens to God. But we have to acknowledge the fact that God loves you enough to take care of your cares for you. 

God loves you enough to not let you wallow where you are. If you look back in Old Testament, people were punished for sin over and over and over. Thank God that He died for our sins. He knew who we were before we were formed in our mother's womb and He knew what a mess we would be, but He still loves us. Even after He died for our sins, we still mess up, and He didn't turn his back on us. That's the thing about God, He doesn't just give up on us. He stays right there because He is patient. What He won't do is let you stay where you are. He is a keeper, a way maker, a protector. He wants the very best for us because He loves us. How can you not love someone like that?

God does all these things for us, and we should in return worship Him and love Him not just because of what He's done but because of who He is. That's a very cliché thing to say, and I didn't really understand what that meant until recently. That's where the inspiration for #WorshipWednesdays came from. I found myself falling in love with worship medleys and it hit me...I shouldn't worship God just because I need Him to do something. I should want to worship Him because of who He is to me. 

You can't truly love Him without knowing Him. It's like any other relationship. I can't say I love my boyfriend if I don't take out the time to know him and spend time with him. You ever been so in love with someone you feel like you can't go on without them? That's how you should feel about God because you literally cannot go on without Him. It's not just a feeling; it's fact. I can't take my next breath if He doesn't allow it to happen. So while He is still loving on us, we should still love on Him.
