Is self love selfish or necessary?

It is absolutely necessary. People this day and age know nothing but to just keep going. I gotta go to this event, get these things done for work, I have to stuff to do for school, but when do I come first? It's okay to say no to some things for the time being and just take a breather. Just don't wait until the last minute to get those things done. That way you can take out time to care for yourself. Others may think it's selfish, and that's okay. People are selfish individuals from time to time. They may not know what you have going on. There's been time I've told people no and they've seen me in the mall or something the day I was supposed to help them and they wanted to confront me about it. I would be lying if I said it didn't upset me. But I had to let them know I needed a break from life for like 2 seconds and I am allowed that. I don't owe them anything. It's selfish of them if they knew what I had going on and didn't want to allow me that break.

I think so many people get wrapped up into needing that someone by their side all the time (myself included) that they forget to they need to love themselves too. Nobody is going to want to try love someone who does not love themselves. Well nobody worth the time anyway. One of the things that I learned from my pastors were people of integrity are people that are whole. The word integrity stems from the word integer, meaning a whole number. You can't be looking for someone (other than God) to make you whole. What happens when that person is not there anymore? You have to figure out how to be whole on your own. The Bible doesn't say the 2 halves became a whole; it says the 2 became 1.
