Let's Talk Saturdays--Everybody looks the same??
This is a new segment for the blog. I don't "church" 24/7. I'm 25 and I have other things to do 😂😂 Just like any other 20 something year old I dabble in reality TV here and there. The other day, I was catching up on Love and Hip Hop Miami and there was a particular scene that caught my attention. I'll see if I can find a video of the scene. Pretty much, Amara La Negra was meeting with Young Hollywood and he told her that she needs to change her look to be "less Macy Gray and more Beyonce" to have a career.

She's undeniably beautiful. The reason I brought this up is because in society today, it's like everybody is a carbon copy. You get on any social media and you see the same thing: light skinned female with obviously unnatural bodies, 30 inch bundles, and Fashion Nova jeans. Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with looking like that. The problem that I have is that everybody looks like that. So now when someone steps remotely out of that, like Amara, it's a problem. That should not be the case.
The fact that colorism is still a thing in 2018 bothers me, and what really bothered me more than anything else is the fact that it was another minority telling her that. You would think minorities would embrace other minorities. It's just crazy to me. Society has had a divide and conquer strategy with minorities since the beginning of time. If they can separate people bye something as simple as color, they've already won.

I guess the reason it really really rubbed me the wrong way is because I'm a dark skinned female and it took years for me to be comfortable with how I looked. When I say years I mean years. I literally just got comfortable within the last year or so. I remember being called "ugly" on the playground because I had dark skin and big lips. So for the girl that doesn't look like everybody on Instagram, you're beautiful. Embrace every bit of melanin, every big lip, everything that makes you you even if society says you shouldn't. Truth be told, they wanna look like you anyway.

Of Mona, of Mona Lisa
Every part of me is beautiful
And I finally see I'm a work of art
A masterpiece"
