365 Questions--August 8
What three things did I do this year to help those around me?
I’m not one to air out what I’ve done for somebody. That’s just not who I am. I don’t need to be recognized for everything that I do. It’s a pet peeve of mine. I would have to say the thing that I did to help those around me is be exactly who I am. What happens between someone and me stays between the 2 of us. I would never tell what all I’ve done for someone, even if we fall out. It’s always a secret. It’s something I get from my dad. He’s the same way with me. I can go to my dad right now and tell him something and I would never have to worry about him telling my mom, grandma, or anybody. It stays between us.
It could be 3 in the morning and somebody could call me screaming, crying, whatever. I’m going to be right there. I give people the same loyalty I would want them to give me. I can remember times when I was in undergrad and my friends and I would stay up all night just talking and talking and talking. Next thing we know, it’s 4 in the morning. Sometimes people just need to vent.
When people tell me stuff, I don’t usually know what to say, depending on what they tell me. However, the one thing that most definitely happens is that I will pray for them. If I don’t know how to do anything else, I know how to pray for other people. I’ll go for broke to God for other people. I just want to see everybody win. In the words of Issa Rae—“I’m rooting for everybody black.”
