A song from your preteen years
This is going to be fun. My preteen and early teen years were during the crunk and snap area, and if you didn’t know, I live about 2 hours away from Atlanta where snap was the hottest thing smoking. But if I had to pick a couple of songs, I would have to pick “Knuck if You Buck,” and “Bubblegum”
Now for all of you new era “Knuck if You Buck” fans, that song is over 10 years old. It is not “JuJu on that Beat.” I was 12 years old when “Knuck if You Buck” came out. That song brings back so much nostalgia. I can remember being 12 with my kinky twists and Lot 29 outfit (how many of yall old enough to remember that?) waiting for the the 4thverse to come on so I could “shake my dreads.”
It’s crazy how the older I got, that songs meaning changed the older I got. Once I got to high school, people would actually fight when that song came one. Everybody would be like
when the song came on. By the time I got to college, that song meant clear the floor because Greeks are about to be going ham.
The reason I chose “Bubblegum” is because I’m assuming a lot of y’all watch Love and Hip Hop. I hate to say it this way, but that show brings a lot of has-beens and a lot of local celebrities. By the time the show came about Rasheeda’s music career had been over. It was during my preteen and early teen years that she was really poppin out here in these streets. Bubblegum was my song. I wasn’t going to nobody’s mama’s house, but you couldn’t tell me nothing when that song came on.
