A song that someone has sung to you
So I don’t think I’ve ever had someone actually sing to me. If they did I definitely don’t remember. Now, one of my friends from college did make a video of her singing and dedicated it to some of my other friends that were graduating that semester and me. It was “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye” by Boyz II Men. It was one of the most special gifts I’ve ever gotten in my life. Even now, 4 years later, it comes in my Facebook memories I cry every single time.
I had never experienced anyone singing to me in church until I was grown. I had to be 19. Around this time, my grandfather had maybe 3 months left to live. Actually, I think it might’ve been around 6 weeks. For those of you who don’t know, my granddaddy was my entire world. He was the man that taught me the life lessons that the streets would’ve attempted to teach me later on. This particular time, my cousin had to preach in Lakeland, Florida, which is only a couple hours from where my granddaddy lived in St. Pete. Of course, we stopped by to see my granddaddy, and he was in really bad shape. He couldn’t talk, and I probably weighed more than he did at the time. Seeing him like that sucked the life out of me. When we went to church that night, I’ll never forget, Prophet Carlos Goins, who is also an amazing minister of music, sang “Turning Around for Me” by Vashawn Mitchell to me as he prophesied that God would be renewing my strength.
